Our Rod and Reel suggestions below are to be used as a guideline to help you prepare for wide variety of fishing we will do on long range trips. There are other manufacturer’s models, and a variety of other manufacturer’s whose products are of excellent quality and may be readily substituted for those we outlined below. If you have specific question please contact our office or your local saltwater/long-range tackle dealer for the most current recommendations for your long range trip destination.

  • The preferred brands of Rods: Calstar Grafighter, Calstar, Seeker Black Steel Graphite and Seeker Classic E Glass.
  • All Reels should have light weight Aluminum spools. Newell and Accurate are best.
  • Preferred brand of line is Izorline (blue or clear).
There are several variations on models and types of Rods and Reels. We've listed the model numbers that we feel work best. Terminal Tackle

Our Terminal Tackle are suggestions to be used as a guideline and should be modified due to the type of fishing we will do on your particular trip. The Pacific Star also provides basic tackle needs to replace line, sinkers and other terminal tackle if needed at competitive prices. Valid Photo Identification is required on all trips US & Mexican waters. Fishing in California waters requires a valid California Ocean license and Mexico requires a Mexican Permit.

  When deciding on lures, it is sometimes best to wait and consult the personnel at Seaforth Landing Tackle, prior to your departure. They have current information and know what's working.

Your Personal Gear

On your Poseidon Sportfishing trip you can expect to find a highly knowledgeable, skilled and accommodating crew to make your adventure aboard the Poseidon an exciting and enjoyable experience. Although The Poseidon is a premier fishing vessel that comes equipped with all of the comforts of home, there are some personal items that we suggest that you bring along to ensure your trip aboard the Poseidon is an enjoyable one. Make sure to check the weather forecasts before packing to make sure you pack accordingly.

PERSONAL ITEMS (3 to 6 Day Trip)
Duffel Bag Considered best for storage, and for dirty laundry.
Clothing Pants: Bring a change for each day. Light material is best.
Shirts: You may need 1 or 2 each day. If you're sun sensitive, long sleeves are in order. Light fabric for quick drying and coolness in warm weather.
Socks: Yes! The more the better. at least a pair for each day.
Undies: Don't forget them!
Shorts: For those hot sultry summer days.
Jacket: For cool nights and cooler days.
Sneakers: Bring two pair so you'll always have a dry pair.
Rubber Boots One pair of short, comfortable boots.
Hat Wide brim, baseball caps, foreign legion. Think Sun protection.
Sun Glasses Polarized to cut the glare. Security straps will prevent loss over the side.
Sun Screen Sweat-proof, water-proof, the broad spectrum type.
Toiletries Bath towels, shampoo, soap, razor, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.
Tools Dikes (cross cutting pliers), duck bill pliers, holder and belt, hook sharpener, Cheap cotton gloves, Rod belt.
Rod Belt A personal choice as to what is most comfortable to you.
Camera Make sure you have a supply of batteries. Camcorders are also welcome.
Entertainment Use the travel time to catch up on that favorite book. We have a great selection of DVD's, but you're more than welcome to bring one or two along to share.
Proof Of Citizenship We do not clear customs on these trips. However, you will be officially visiting a foreign country. We recommend that you have a passport or certified copy of your birth certificate with you.
Sea Sickness Check with your Physician for preferred method of prevention (Transderm patches are back! These appear to be highly successful). There are several over-the-counter products that are very effective. Your local Pharmacist would be another excellent source for recommendations.
